A Poem contributed by former MHC Board of Directors Chair, Edwin Norse

Recovery

Recovery is what we do,
A daily chore that never ends.
A hope we can make all things new,
As each on each we must depend.

To wake up in a land that’s free,
To know that people care, support.
Discrimination, false decree,
Now placed aside, the battle fought.

To move beyond the suffering,
With medicine and new ideas.
To let the chime of victory ring,
To banish both the pain and fears.

So ring the bell of hope this day,
And shatter all of man’s dismay.

Cast from shackles which bound them, this bell shall ring out hope for the mentally ill and victory over mental illness. (Inscription on Mental Health Bell)
