Wellness is woven into all we do at the Independence Center. From the workshops we offer to the skills we teach to the food we serve, we believe in whole health wellness. Each month a calendar will be available that highlights the activities and workshops scheduled for each day. There are also other resources available to you such as our computer lab and art studio. We believe that all individuals deserve a fulfilling life and the IC provides the tools, community, and support to help you along the way.
Upon becoming a member, you will be assigned a Wellness Specialist. The Wellness Specialist’s role is to assist you with participation in program activities and to help you achieve your goals. Case management-like services are available to those members who do not have any other providers. This can include linkage to medical providers, entitlements, housing, substance use treatment and other community resources. Staff also assist members with realizing recovery through a variety of educational and experiential activities, individual meetings and collaboration with family and/or other providers.
Mental Health Connecticut participates in the Northwest Coordinated Access Network (CAN) that serves those who meet the HUD definition of literal homelessness, which is required for entry into homeless projects throughout the state. CANs asses the housing needs of all individuals experiencing homelessness. Staff are trained to explore an individual’s strengths to reconnect them to natural supports, communicate with landlords, and identify solutions to resolve or prevent housing crisis.
