If you’ve been feeling stuck, scattered, or just plain exhausted, you’re not alone, and you’re not lazy. On July 23, 2025, Mental Health Connecticut hosted a powerful Virtual Lunch & Learn session with certified ADHD Coach Robyn Greenspan, MS, who helped us unpack how burnout can deplete dopamine, our brain’s motivation and reward chemical.
In this engaging, research-informed session, Robyn shared practical, science-backed strategies to help you reset your momentum by activating dopamine in healthy, sustainable ways. From understanding the neuroscience of burnout to learning how simple actions like daydreaming, moving your body, or even using your non-dominant hand can spark motivation, attendees walked away with new tools and hope. Her work integrates neuroscience, positive psychology, “dopamine hacks,” and practical strategies to help clients understand how their brain works and build systems that support sustainable success.

A self care technique that Robyn provides is called a “dopamine reset.” Dopamine is a brain chemical that plays a key role in motivation, focus and energy. When dopamine levels are low, often due to stress or ADHD, it can feel difficult to start or sustain tasks. A dopamine reset involves stepping away from what you’re doing and shifting into a small, enjoyable activity, like going outside, listening to music, moving your body or chatting with a friend, for a few minutes. This helps re-energize your brain, making it easier to return with more clarity, focus and momentum.
