Tour For Life 2021

Contributed by: Kenny Mercer

This August, CT-based Full Blast Booking presents Tour for Life, a mental health and suicide prevention live music charity tour of New England.

Full Blast Booking owner Kenny Mercer, partnered with Mental Health CT to present this tour in 2019, sometime after his friend Alex took his own life. He wanted to raise awareness for mental illness while providing people with a safe and supportive environment to seek help, and thought a concert series was the perfect solution.

Unfortunately, the tour had to be postponed twice due to COVID-19, but it is finally hitting the road in August in support of this great cause and the amazing charity organization Mental Health Connecticut (MHC). Over the past 2 years, Full Blast Booking has been working hard to fundraise over $25,000 to cover expenses, so that 100% of proceeds can be donated to MHC.

The tour will resemble a mental health fair and music festival with MHC, National Alliance of Mental Illness, and other nonprofit organizations on hand with booths, free promotional materials, activities and informational talks to the crowds. The tour will also feature multi-genre lineups of live music including major headliners Rakim, Cappadonna of Wu Tang Clan, Brother Ali, Rittz, and some of the best regional and local support in each city. The grand finale event in Connecticut at The Klein Memorial Theater outdoor concert space also features Steal Your Funk, fronted by Jen Durkin of Deep Banana Blackout, local mainstays Ceschi, Mandala, Duece Bug, Vicki F and underground hip-hop legend Copywrite among many other bands and solo acts.

With the COVID restrictions slowly being lifted, we are excited to see the return of live music. Following such a challenging year and a half for most people, we believe it is necessary to educate the public on the resources available to them if they are struggling with depression, anxiety or other mental illnesses as a result of the pandemic or other reasons. This tour will be the place to celebrate the end of the pandemic and take the first steps towards healing and returning to normal life.
