On Saturday, July 16th The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) launched a new 3-digit number known as 9-8-8. United Way has worked collaboratively with DMHAS to prepare CT-focused FAQs around the soft launch of 988 – click here to view.

It is important to note that in the state of Connecticut, the United Way of Connecticut/211 (UWC) Health and Human Services Contact Center is the only provider answering calls for the NSPL/988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The 800 line and 211 will not go away in the event people need to call and aren’t familiar yet with 988.

If you or someone you know is in immediate crisis, you can still contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 (En Español: 1-888-628-9454; Deaf: dial 711 then 1-800-273-8255) or the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741741.
