“We are different industries but have very similar values between our organizations,” said Luis Perez, President and CEO of Mental Health Connecticut during a special virtual conversation with Eric Galvin, President of ConnectiCare, a community partner and the top sponsor of MHC’s #31DaysofWellness campaign.

We are pleased to share the below in-depth conversation between two leaders of statewide organizations, both helping to promote health and wellness across Connecticut. Learn about ConnectiCare’s commitment to whole health, the positive impact of their Peace of Mind wellness checks, Eric’s thoughts on the future of telehealth, and how ConnectiCare is providing for its members and employees throughout the pandemic.

Eric Galvin, President of ConnectiCare, is at the helm of one of the Northeast’s leading health plans. He is a proven executive with more than 20 years of experience in the health care industry. Throughout his career, Eric has worked with insurance industry regulators on a variety of initiatives to better serve health plan members. He has been active in efforts to make the health care system more sustainable and affordable in both the Northeast and South Carolina.  Eric is a sought after speaker on topics related to health insurance, health care public policy and issues facing the business community. His leadership recently led to the creation of a non-profit organization called Partnership for a Healthier Connecticut, which will implement a new care model for people with type 2 diabetes.

At ConnectiCare, Eric is responsible for all aspects of the company and its performance. He architected and led the company through a financial turnaround in just over a year, developed innovative provider collaboration agreements, and has created a culture focused on growth and commitment to our Connecticut communities. Under Eric’s leadership, the company launched a subsidiary company, WellSpark Health, focused on new benefit programs designed to prevent illness and improve bio-psycho-social health.

Luis B. Pérez, LCSW, is the President and CEO of Mental Health Connecticut. He has held leadership positions both in the private and public sectors and has a proven track record in behavioral health outcomes-based management, strategic planning, network development, public policy, budgeting, grant writing, and fundraising. Since joining MHC in 2013, Luis has led a transformation of MHC that has included an investment in reliable systems and structures that have allowed the organization to deepen its impact, improve outcomes, and support innovation. MHC continues to lead the state on public policy initiatives that elevate the importance of community-based care that supports health and wellness as a goal for everyone, and reduces the long-term reliance on state-funding.

Luis earned his Master’s degree from the University of Connecticut’s School of Social Work and then become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Luis has served on over 20 boards and committees during his career. He currently serves on the boards for Mental Health America, the Connecticut Community Nonprofit Alliance, Mercy Community Health, and the American School for the Deaf. He recently served on Governor Lamont’s Transition Team as Co-Chair of the Public Policy Committee and has been nominated to serve on the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, and Equal Opportunities.
